2009 Overnight Camps
YMCA Camp Letts is located on an inlet off the Chesapeake Bay that overlooks three islands and a 2600 acre preserve that has served as the backdrop for over 100 summers of land and aquatic adventures. It all began in 1906 when YMCA Boys Work Director Albert M. Chesley pitched tents for camping on five acres of land along the South River and initiated what is now the oldest, organized resident camp in the Washington area. The Camp moved in 1922 to its present location, thanks to the generosity of John Cowen Letts. Today youngsters from the Baltimore-Washington area and beyond flock to this secure and exciting environment to kindle friendships and master new skills while learning more about themselves, their peers, and the world in which they live. Our Association of YMCA of Metropolitan Washington would like to say “THANK YOU” to all those who have come before and for all those yet to come.
With over 100 years of experience YMCA Camp Letts offers a safe and stable environment for our guests. We are American Camp Association (ACA) Accredited, National YMCA Camp Standards Accredited, and comply with all Federal and State Regulations. Each year we select caring, alert, and well trained staff through an interview process that includes a FBI background check. Our staff is First Aid and CPR Certified, and program staff is experienced and certified in their specific areas including: US Sailing, MD Safe Boating, YMCA and Red Cross Lifeguard, USA Water Ski, AA County Pool Operators, and Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA).

We encourage campers to put pocket money into a Camp Store Account. A minimum of $20 may be added to your camp balance when being paid. This account is used to purchase items from the Camp Store only. Campers are unable to withdraw money from this account. Any remaining money at the end of each camp session is donated to our 2009 Building Bridges Campaign at the end of that session. This fund enables more children to attend YMCA Camp Letts.
Transportation
Bus service is available for our two week sessions only between Camp and selected points for $80 round trip or $40 one-way. Details are mailed upon receipt of application in your confirmation packet. Airport transportation is also available upon request. Fees are applicable and vary based on airport. These fees are non-refundable.

Trips
Campers occasionally travel off Camp for special, closely monitored, group programs. It is understood that a camper’s parent or legal guardian fully authorizes such trips.
Phone Calls
Use of the telephone by campers is discouraged. Special arrangements are always made for emergencies.
Cell Phones
Camp will always arrange for campers to make necessary phone calls. Camper cell phones will be confiscated if found and returned upon check-out. New 2009! Sending a cell phone to camp with your camper may be grounds for dismissal!

In fairness to everyone, we will have to make substitutions from the waiting list if the full fee is not received within the allotted time. For payments made after the due date, we can only accept a certified check, credit card, money order or cash.
If your resident camper is being picked up after 3:00 PM on the last day of their camp session, you will be charged a $25 late fee. This fee can be paid at the time your child/children are picked up.
Medical
It is assumed that the applicant is a healthy child in good physical condition and mentally able to participate fully in the program unless otherwise stated in writing to the Camp Director. Campers are to be examined by a physician within 24 months prior to their arrival at Camp and the results will be recorded on the form provided by YMCA Camp Letts. We will mail this form after the registration has been received. Maryland State Health Law requires all campers attending YMCA CAMP LETTS have a completed health form. Campers are not allowed to attend camp without a completed health form. The health form and copy of your insurance card should be mailed one month prior to the camper’s arrival. If a camper needs special medical treatment, medication, hospital care, or physician’s service during their camp session, his/her parents or legal guardian will be responsible for payment.
Cooperation
It is agreed and understood that the camper will cooperate and accept YMCA Camp Letts standards of behavior. Failure to do so may result in discipline or immediate dismissal with no refund.
Refunds
The parent/guardian agrees and understands that in case of dismissal, homesickness or voluntary withdrawal, there will be no refund of camp fees. If it is deemed advisable by the camp to send a camper home due to medical reasons, a parent must request in writing a pro rata refund for the remainder of the session. There will be no refund on cancellations made within ten days of expected arrival date. There are also no refunds for cancellation of activities due to related weather conditions. The YMCA reserves the right to refuse any applicant and to cancel any reservation.
Waiver Form
Any camper may have his or her photograph taken during the course of activities and it is understood that YMCA Camp Letts has permission to use such photos for promotion and various publications.
Equipment
Please do not allow your campers to bring any items of value to camp. We are not responsible for lost, misplaced, damaged or stolen items or money. PLEASE, NO CELL PHONES.
Lost Articles
All left behind items are bagged and stored for one week and then donated to a local charity.
