FAMILY CAMP 2004

Memorial and Labor Day Weekends

An Invitation To Visit YMCA Camp Letts

YMCA Camp Letts invites you, your family and friends to venture into one of the most beautiful camp/conference centers in Maryland. Here you will discover a world and atmosphere to be shared with your loved ones.

Roam over 200 acres of forest and meadows and enjoy spectacular views from the ridges along the river. Sit back and watch the lovely sunsets on the river. Explore by horseback, on foot and/or by canoe.

Play to your heart’s content any sport that you find  challenging and comfortable. Get acquainted with other families who are seeking the peace and quiet of a camp setting.

Enjoy the fabulous meals and treats from our kitchen and square dance with your family and friends. Or, just relax and rock on the Boathouse porch.

We invite you to make Camp Letts a family tradition as many families have done before.

We welcome you to stay with us over the Memorial Day and/or Labor Day Weekend.

Lodging – Camp Letts offer four different styles of housing:

  • Letts Lodge - a large building with 12 rooms (two bunk beds sleeping up to four per room). Bathroom facilities on both levels.

  • Lodges - with a capacity of 24 to 28 guests in each of the 12 buildings. Each lodge is divided into three rooms. The two end rooms are dormitory-style bedrooms with either 10 or 12 beds and a bathroom. The center room is used as either sleeping quarters or for a buffer between two families if two families are sharing lodging.

  • Rustic log cabins – the cabins are within walking distance to bath facilities and all program areas but they are situated in the woods away from the main camp. We have six cabins with twelve built-in beds in each; there are no bathrooms in these buildings. They are perfect for an individual family.

  • Tents – the area is about one mile from the main camp and does not have water or electricity.

Dining

Our talented food service team is always anxious to provide the best in fresh fruits, vegetables and meats. Meals may be served either buffet or family style with families seated around large, round tables. The lighted porch running the length of the room provides an ideal location for viewing the sunset and the beauty of the surrounding water and woodland.

Camping Gear

It will be necessary to bring sleeping and bath gear – a sleeping bag or twin  sheets and a blanket, a pillow, towels and bath articles. For horseback riding you will need long pants and heeled shoes – we provide the helmets. A flashlight, appropriate clothing for weather conditions and a good book are always good choices.

Leave the programming and dining to us!

A FAMILY WEEKEND TO REMEMBER

Families have been coming to Camp Letts for weekend retreats for many  years. We hear from family members that their children, now with children of their own, call from other states to find out when their family is "getting together" at Camp Letts.

In some cases, they request the lodging they have used over the past 20 years. Their stories of the past take them back to the good "old" days  when the cabins were primitive, the road rougher and the range of activities fewer. But, they never fail to laugh and remember the pleasure of being together as a family.

PLAY – Our athletic fields can accommodate about any sport you may wish to play. Enjoy three tennis courts, a lighted basketball court, and a beach-sand volleyball court. You may gather your team and challenge another family to baseball, soccer or football on our grassy playing field. For smaller competition, pitch horseshoes or roll the bocce ball.

RIDE – Riding or spending some time becoming acquainted with the Camp Letts’ horses and stable may be the most relaxing experience you have had in a long time.

Trail rides through quiet woodlands, above the Rhode River and through the  vast meadows provide a scenic view not to be forgotten.

SWIM – Swimming, playing and splashing in our 25 meter fresh water pool may be the highlight of your day. Perhaps, you may wish to wade along the edge of the Rhode River collecting what wonders drift in with tide.

SAIL, CANOE, SEA-SLED – Our premier waterfront, where the Camp Letts peninsula juts into the river, offers a plethora of water activity options. Only one-quarter mile from the Chesapeake Bay, the Rhode River sparkles in the sunrise, mists over in the rain and glows in the sunset. Sailing, canoeing, skiing, power boating and sea-sledding are all yours at Camp Letts.
